RD: When did you start painting/Drawing??

Buff Monster: I started drawing when I was a kid. I still have a lot of my old drawings. My Mom was big into keeping everything that I did.

RD: Where are you from??

Buff Monster: I was born in Hawaii. I've lived in LA for the last 9 years.

RD: Main art influences??

Buff Monster: Heavy metal, more than anything, really inspires me. I just love it. So that mixed with a healthy dose of porn, graffiti and ice cream influences the work that I create.

RD: Do you have to get in the "zone" to paint, or do you just jump right into it??

Buff Monster: Usually, yes, I view art as the result of being in the zone. Its not always required, but I really like to sit down and spend days painting. Lots of heavy metal.

RD: What kind of Music do you listen to??

Buff Monster: See above.

RD: How did you develop your style??

Buff Monster: I guess it's developing my whole life. But about five years ago I made a real conscious choice to focus on the most ridiculous bright and bubbly stuff. More and more the visual language that I use is very sexual, but I also think its open enough that kids can see the work and its not a problem. I think craftsmanship is very important. I'm super anal.

RD: Do you have any crazy art gallery moments??

Buff Monster: I have these photos of Paris Hilton on my website, and some people think that I photoshoped them, but they're legit. I did a solo show in 2003, and a fashion magazine came down to my installation to do a shoot with Paris as the model. It was just before she had every magazine cover, so it wasn't a big deal to see her that day. But it was just ridiculous. Nice photos though.

RD: Whats your biggest accomplishment in terms of Art??

Buff Monster: That is a very hard question to answer. The holiday issue of Hustler just got printed, it'll be out on oct 17th, and there is a 12-page spread in there that I Art Directed. Now I'm not saying that's my biggest accomplishment, but that I can cross-over and work in the medium that inspires me and for one of the biggest brands in that industry, effortlessly, is amazing to me.

RD: Do people ever send you pictures of tattoos of your work??

Buff Monster: Nope. I get lots of people these days that really want me to draw tattoos for them. I like the idea of designing half sleeves for people.

RD: What do you think of porn??

Buff Monster: Well, that's a loaded question. I like it. Its funny, these days I don't look at porn to get turned on so much. I'm very aware of the poses, the lighting, the make-up. There is so much bad porn out there, its really annoying. I am much more inspired by the idea of porn, rather than porn itself. Also, I find it very frustrating to want to work in that industry and do really amazing stuff, but most people are dead set on making the cheapest, shittiest stuff they can.

RD: What kind of girls are you into??

Buff Monster: I like girls that like me. I can be really amazing with girls, but I also think there is a lot for them to put up with. I don't have a type, per se, but they gotta be fun, funny, smart and cute.

RD: Do you have any "art groupies"??

Buff Monster: Oh yes. And I look forward to more of them.

RD: Any Crazy Sexual Exploits to brag about??

Buff Monster: There are, but I'll save 'em. I have fun with the girls I have sex with, and there really aren't that many.

RD: What do you think of razordolls.com??

Buff Monster: I like all the naked girls and the pink backgrounds. I like all the words too. But I haven't read that many of them, so I can't comment on the content of them.

RD: Whos your favorite razordoll??

Buff Monster: Well, I'd have to say the very lucky lady that I'll be shooting soon.

RD: Do you think Porn will ever be an accepted art form??

Buff Monster: I view them as two distinct things, because of their intention. Naked sluts in an art context exists to inform, educate or comment, but naked sluts in porn are just there to make guys jerk off.

RD: What upcoming artists should we look out for??

Buff Monster: I really like Alex Pardee, I'm glad he's getting some more attention. My boy Seizer kills billboards with me every week. Friends With You, Craola, Sonik Mercury, Chris Bettig, so many. I wouldn't say they're upcoming but they're doing cool shit and I like them.

RD: Do you like Horror Movies? If so Whats your Favorite??

Buff Monster: I like really bad horror movies. The blob is cool.

RD: Whats your opinion on the art scene today??

Buff Monster: There is a lot of art out there. I'm very picky about what I like. I expect a lot.

RD: What would you say is the biggest problem with society today??

Buff Monster: The moral right. I don't do drugs, but I think some drugs should be legalized. I don't visit prostitutes, but I think that should be legalized as well.
