RD: When did you start painting??

Damon Soule: my parents are artists so iv'e been making stuff my whole life. i guess i started painting seriously for about 15 years.

RD: Where are you from??

Damon Soule: i grew up in new orleans but iv'e also lived in pensacols florida, colorado springs, san francisco, and i'm currently living in nyc

RD: Main art influences??

Damon Soule: i would have to say mainly my father. he is an amazing painter with an insane imagination. other faves, gordan matta clark, duchamp, mark twain, my buddy mars1, pretty much anyone with a creative mind

RD: Do you have to get in the "zone" to paint, or do you just jump right into it??

Damon Soule: both. i jump right into the zone, but once i get started i kind of go a little crazy and have difficulty socializing.

RD: What kind of Music do you listen to??

Damon Soule: everything really, a lot of classical, experimental, and air america

RD: How did you develop your stylle??

Damon Soule: time + effort = finding your voice

RD: Do you have any crazy art gallery moments??

Damon Soule: no not really except the deadbeats who sell your work or lose it and never reimburse you. though those days are over i hope.

RD: Whats your biggest accomplishment in terms of Art??

Damon Soule: i guess the fact that iv'e made my liveing for a decade now with only my work puts a smile on my face, but really always doing the best you can is life's only accomplishment.

RD: Do people ever send you pictures of tattoos of your work??

Damon Soule: yes, though i haven't seen one that really came out well. people email me all the time wanting me to draw something for a tattoo but to be honest i don't feel comfortable doing it because i feel like it doesn't translate well. maybe someone will prove me wrong.

RD: What do you think of porn??

Damon Soule: i think its fine as long as it's consenting adults.

RD: What kind of girls are you into??

Damon Soule: all kinds

RD: Do you have any "art groupies"??

Damon Soule: Most likely but to be honest i 'm one of those people that can't tell when someones flirting.

Damon Soule: of course but i wouldn't feel comfortable airing them in such a public forum. though i will gladly tell fun stories in private.

Damon Soule: i think to some extent it has but it will never be for everyone.

Damon Soule: umm, kinda. i'm a bit of a pussy though, can't watch them alone. the shining still scares the shit out of me.

RD: Whats your opinion on the art scene today??

Damon Soule: it's really exploded in the last few years which is great but it has also attracted a lot of one trick ponies.
