RD: When did you start painting?
I started to paint with a brush when I was 20
Before that I always drew, and did some air brushing.
I did a lot of Graffiti art and dabbled a bit in
Tattooing
RD: Where are you from??
Mars-1:
I was raised in Fresno CA, but moved to San Francisco
after graduating from High School. Now I have been
here for
the last 10 years.
RD: Main art influences??
Mars-1:
Wow, that's a tough one . There are a lot of artists
who
have Influenced me. So, if I were to boil it down to
a few, I
would have to say: Syd Mead, Moubius, Roger Dean,
Salvador
Dali, Eero Aarnio.
RD: Do you have to get in the "zone" to paint, or do
you just jump right into it??
Mars-1:
Now-a-days, I find myself getting so busy. Getting in
the zone is not an option. Or, maybe I should say,
I try hard to stay in the zone!
RD: What kind of Music do you listen to??
Mars-1:
Here is some of the Music I have been digging on

Solvent, Quicksilver Messenger Service, High Tide,
Growing Concern, and Pete Brown
RD: How did you develop your style??
Mars-1:
I like to think of it as creating new letter in a
alphabet. Each new element adds another
letter of the alphabet with which to create visual
words,
words into sentences, and sentences into paintings. I
am always looking to expand my vocabulary.
RD: Do you have any crazy art gallery moments??
Mars-1:
Yes at a gallery opening I had a few years ago.
Prior to the opening, I was short on work so I was
desperately painting away feverishly. At about the
last five days
before the opening I was budgeting my sleep and
probably had combined an amount of 10 hours of sleep
for That week. By the time the opening rolled around,
I was
showing signs of sleep deprivation. While I was
talking to
people, I felt like my soul was flying in and out of
my body, into space and back, and back again. It was
pretty harsh. Hopefully, that is the last time I do
anything
like that again. I love sleep. and I felt like
years were shaved off my life after that.
RD: Do people ever send you pictures of tattoos of your
work??
Mars-1:
No, Just several people emailing me threatening to get
tattoos of my art, but I have yet to see any proof
RD: What do you think of porn??
Mars-1:
I think it's a part of any free thinking liberated
society.
like everything it can have it's dark side. But I
believe when society attempts to oppress and overly
censor porn,that
breads ignorance, sham and self hatred .When in reality
the human body and sexuality should be a celebrated
healthy part of the human psyche.Porn can be
positive and stimulating .It should be enjoyed and
out in the open. Not something to
feel guilty about .
RD: What kind of girls are you into??
Mars-1:
All kinds. I am a multicultural race, shape and size
fan of the female persuasion. Also couldn't hurt if
they happen to be wearing roller skates

most waking hours
