Most Amazing Time
meeting John Zorn, Tricky, Trey Spruance, Patton, Kool Keith, Rudolf Eb.er, Phew, Sachiko M...or working with AC/DC for 1 week as a "runner." Good times.
Most Embarassing Time
singing "Blue Hawaii" in front of 50 of my Japanese colleagues.
It has been a long time and so much has happened that I don't know where to begin. I will begin somewhere around the middle but just to the left.
Lapdancer has finished an album tentatively entitled, "Enchanting Tales of Affrightment or Apoplexy." This is a brutal, sludgy, emotional and haunting journey through my autumnal dread. Up next is a possible collaboration with SENSATIONAL, possibly the greatest hip-hop artist on the planet. If you don't believe me, check the weight of "Sensational in Dub." The man is amazing. Financial negotiations are underway. I am just afraid I won't have enough to pay him what he wants.
Plenty of good adult material has passed through my hands/eyes/ears recently and I am still waiting to see Suthern Cumfort. Apparently there is some Lapdancer in there.
Drake Hills has created a slew of mildly amusing shorts and is currently working on a 10 part series and a full-length film. Also, ideas are floating around as to a full-length adult film being shot here in Japan.
I stumbled upon Secondlife last week during my vacation and played it a bit. Interesting game and, actually packed with possibilities for artists and marketing. One online shop there was selling streaming adult content. Virtual sex, though...c'mon, get over it. Dull and amusing at best. Someday soon when computer graphics are stepped up a notch, virtual erotic enjoyment will be worth a gander, but nothing will still beat a real Razordoll.
In ancient Japan, people's clothing was selected and designed by the government as were strict food prohibitions. The simple life.
Just finished a new long ass piece, which I am calling "The XXXotic Drums of Desire by Lapdancer." I am very pleased with this and fell into a deep trance while making this piece. Completely chaotic and visceral.
The video for SENSATIONAL is up on YouTube and Dailymotion. Wish I could see him in Europe. What an amazing opportunity, to be able to put images to his music. Beautiful, indeed.
Watched the Japanese surreal mannequin series, "Oh Mikey!" which is about an American family (The Fuccons) living in Japan and the beautifully pointless situations that they encounter. Wonderful. The series, which is available on DVD in the US, I heard, started on the bizarre variety show "Vermillion Pleasure Nights." Cool shit.
Very stoked about David Lynch's new movie, "Inland Empire." I re-rented "Mulholland Drive" last night and have been studying it closely, although "Room to Dream" has to be one of my favorite Lynch pieces.
So, yesterday, I was asked to create a music video for my favorite hip-hop artist, Sensational. I chose his intense piece, "Who Dat Dude?" I was shaking in my boots. The footage has all been shot and edited, but I am sitting on it for a bit, getting away from it only to return to it and see if it still satisfies me. Sensational has worked with Ghostigital, The Jungle Brothers, Kev Hutch, Kouhei and has released many albums on Wordsound and one on Mike Patton's, Ipecac Recordings. As Sen would say, "Stay tuned for the boom."
Yesterday was my girlfriend's birthday. I recorded her a birthday song and she really liked it. Filmed a short last night, but accidentally clicked off the audio, so I had to redo it. Redid it and it came out better than the original.
Sunday, picked up the silly video game "Parappa the Rapper." This is a rhythmic sequence game for Playstation. I don't often play video games, but have been enjoying this game very much. I can't get past the second stage. Nerd.
Also, filmed a short film called "Aki No Yume (Autumn Dream)", which for lack of people to help, had to film by myself, acting and directing. It came out well.
Just received my order. 2 DVDs and the 2 NEW Japan-only singles by "Cornelius." I am listening to one of the singles now, "Breezin" and must say, that if you are a fan of "From Nakameguro to Everywhere," then this is right up your alley. Mr. Keigo Oyamada's technical mixing mastery is apparent as is his ever-evolving arrangment skills. Beautiful overall production, writing, layering and texture. Everything seems to flow so seamlessly as only Cornelius can do. Am very, very impressed.
Meanwhile, I recorded a 20 minute rehearsal which should be up in mp3 format very soon. A 4 minute video excerpt can be accessed by going to the Youtube page. I dug up my old Comme Des Garcons suitcoat, lit up some Chandam and let go. The results: pleasantly creepy to my ears. I see 2 pieces that emerged from that session, one of which (the one of Youtube)I am calling, "A Penguin in Mourning." This is a dark folk messy soundscape ala Leadbelly or Skip James. I put up a video on Dailymotion of the "hentai" performance and it gets 900 views in less than a week, put up live Lapdancer material and it gets about 8 views. Go figure, nudity sells.
Have been interested in Japanese "idol" DVDs recently. These are DVDs in which one model (or "idol") poses in bikinis, panties, etc. often being sexy/innocent and almost always accompanied by lame dance music. I have the vision to create a similar film with about 4/5 models (no sex, only posing and stripping, touching) with a full Lapdancer score. I'm not sure as to the legalities of selling this (what forms I would need, etc.), but have the vision and can wait awhile and plan, sort things out.
